Workplace accident kills California worker

Some job duties inherently carry the risk of physical injury. Miners, for example, are subjected to the very real possibility that a mine could collapse,, leaving them with serious injuries or death. Yet, even seemingly mundane, day-to-day job tasks can suddenly turn injurious or deadly. When this happens, victims and their families can be left with extensive emotional and financial losses.

One California family may be in this position now after a workplace accident left a 60-year-old man dead. According to reports, workers were attempting to load a forklift onto a truck's trailer when the truck slid, jackknifed, and pinned the man, who had exited the vehicle in an attempt to help, between the pickup truck and its trailer. The incident likely isn't a common one to occur at the vineyard where it took place. Nevertheless, Cal-OSHA is investigating the incident.

Sadly, incidents like this leave family members with extensive losses. First and foremost, they will be left with an emotional void once filled by their loved one's presence. Second, they may wind up facing serious financial trouble, as they will have to find a way to pay for medical expenses, as well as recoup their loved one's lost wages. Figuring out how to deal with the financial aspect of their loss can be challenging, especially as they try to find closure.

Fortunately, families in this situation may be able to recover workers' compensation death benefits. Such benefits, if successfully obtained, may allow a family to recoup some of their loved one's lost wages, thereby giving them the financial security they need to get by. Then, with financial stability, they can focus on their emotional healing, which may take a significant period of time.
