Defective product leads to truck recall

When consumers buy products, they expect them to be safe for their intended use. Whether one buys a toy for their child, food for their family, or even clothing to wear to work, the last thing they expect is to be injured by it. The same holds true for automobiles. Yet, with the numerous parts that go into making a functioning car or truck, there are bound to be issues, despite extensive safety regulations being put into place. The defective auto parts can leave unsuspecting individuals susceptible to injuries.

In an attempt to stop defective parts from injuring consumers, federal regulators and/or car manufacturers may recall certain vehicles. This was the case recently for nearly 3,000 Ford Rangers. According to reports, the trucks were recalled over fears of exploding air bag inflators, which apparently killed one person in West Virginia and another in South Carolina. The inflators were made by Takata, the same company that was utterly ruined by the defective products they supplied to Honda. The recall affects certain 2006 Ford Rangers. Drivers are encouraged to take their vehicles to a Ford dealership, where the appropriate repairs will be made.

Defective auto parts continue to plague the industry. Ford alone had just recalled nearly 400,000 Rangers in 2016 out of fear of defective air bag inflators. These inflators can operate with too much force, which can cause a metal canister to break apart, shooting shrapnel at a driver and passengers. More than 20 people have been killed by these inflators, and at least 180 people have reported injuries.

Simply put, people should not be injured or killed by the very devices that are meant to protect them. Unfortunately, this seems to be an all too common occurrence when it comes to motor vehicles. Those who have suffered injuries or the loss of a loved one due to one of these defective products should consider discussing their case with an attorney, as compensation may be recoverable for damages suffered.
