What are the common causes of truck accidents?

On Behalf of | Oct 21, 2019 | Truck Accidents

Accidents involving large trucks are almost always very serious. If they do not claim a life or cause a serious injury, they at least hold up traffic and cause a major disruption on the roadway. Preventing truck accidents is something that everyone on California roads should take an interest in because it is not only up to truck drivers to stop accidents. Other motorists play a role, too. In fact, most truck accidents are due to other vehicles.

With that in mind, GTG Technology Group explains one of the main causes of truck accidents is other drivers not giving trucks enough room on the road. A large truck requires more time to stop and more room to maneuver. You cannot crowd a truck on the road. If you do, the chances of an accident greatly increase.

Another common cause is mechanical or equipment failure. This is preventable in most cases. All it takes is doing proper maintenance of the truck on a regular basis and completing routine inspections. Before you get into the vehicle, you need to do an inventory and inspection. This should happen every time you begin a shift. Being lax in your maintenance could lead to an accident easily.

Loads that are not secure or that sit unevenly can also lead to accidents. Imagine your truck bed is unevenly loaded. Since it carries so much weight, this could easily lead to rollovers and other stability issues that put not only your truck but everyone else on the road in danger.
