A delay in symptoms doesn't mean a decrease in pain and suffering

A car accident can occur at any moment, and preparing for such a potentially traumatic even can be difficult at best. Perhaps you consider your safety paramount and strictly adhere to California state traffic laws and safe driving procedures; unfortunately, your well-being may also be in the hands of others while on the road.

Even the safest of drivers can suffer the wrath of a collision, especially if negligence is a contributing factor. If you suffer serious injuries in the accident, you may wish to pursue restitution. However, holding off until you are aware of all your injuries could be in your best interests.

Accident injuries with delayed symptoms

Certain injuries may not present immediate symptoms. Despite the delay, they can be just as serious, if not more so, than any other injury. Some examples of injuries that may exhibit delayed symptoms could include the following:

  • Head injury:  These injuries are common among accident victims, and the symptoms can range anywhere from headaches to loss of consciousness or memory. Regardless of how minor the pain is at first, seeking medical attention is advisable.
  • Whiplash:  Injuries to the neck and shoulders is prevalent among those who experience whiplash, and along with any pain you may experience, these injuries can also cause tingling sensations or numbness.
  • Back pain:  Back pain can take several days to appear in full force, and these injuries can be exceedingly troublesome and challenging to overcome.
  • Abdominal injury:  If you experience pain in your abdomen, or even bruising or swelling, seeking immediate attention is necessary, as this could indicate the presence of internal bleeding, which can be dangerous.
  • Emotional:  Emotional trauma, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, is another common accident injury which can be just as harmful, if not worse, than a physical injury,

If the other party is at fault in an accident in which you suffer serious injuries, his or her insurance company may offer an early settlement. However, regardless of how enticing this may seem, accepting a settlement before discovering all your injuries and seeking guidance could cause you to miss out on compensation you deserve.

Pursuing restitution

Serious injuries from a collision can lead to long-term or permanent damages that could alter your future dramatically, potentially reducing your overall quality of life. The extensive cost of medical treatment can place you under a significant financial weight. Perhaps you wish to pursue compensation, but with numerous crucial aspects to consider, the process can be stressful and intimidating. You could choose to seek guidance from someone with experience in the area, which might help prepare you to pursue the compensation you deserve through the necessary channels.
